ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – C.J. Wilson struck out 10 in eight innings, Josh Hamilton had a two-run single and the Los Angeles Angels beat Seattle 7-1 yesterday to hand the Mariners their season-worst sixth straight loss. Wilson allowed a run and six hits in his longest outing since June 8, 2012. Brandon Maurer gave up seven runs and 11 hits in three innings for Seattle and fell to 2-6.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – The Nebraska softball team isn’t fazed by having to travel to Oregon to play the third-seeded Ducks in this weekend’s NCAA super regional. The Pac-12 champion Ducks (49-9) handed Nebraska (43-13) its most lopsided loss of the season and have won 24 straight at home. The winner moves on to next week’s Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Storm got used to star center Lauren Jackson being absent because of injuries and commitments with the Australian national team. Now, they’ll have to adjust to playing without Jackson and floor leader Sue Bird. The Storm enter the season with neither star available as both recover from major surgeries. Jackson is rehabbing her hamstring, and Bird had knee surgery. The two will miss the entire summer season. Seattle opens on the road Sunday at Los Angeles.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon has received a formal notice of allegations in December related into the NCAA investigation into its use of recruiting services. The notice, released in response to public records requests and first reported by The Register-Guard, follows reports that Oregon already met with the NCAA Committee on Infractions last month. The NCAA has been looking into payments Oregon made to recruiting services. The NCAA won’t comment. It’s unknown when a decision might be announced.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Timbers signed defender Rauwshan McKenzie yesterday and waived defender Ryan Kawulok. The 26-year-old McKenzie had one assist in 20 appearances for Chivas USA last season. Drafted by the Kansas City Wizards in 2008, he also played for Real Salt Lake. Kawulok, who’s 23, was the eighth overall pick in the 2012 supplemental draft.
