SEATTLE (AP) – Chris Stewart had a tiebreaking RBI single in the ninth inning to help the New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 2-1 yesterday. Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk from Yoervis Medina to open the ninth. Jayson Nix sacrificed him to second. Then with two outs, Stewart bounced a grounder to through the left side as Suzuki, the former Mariners star, scored easily to help New York take three of four from Seattle.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State went on to beat Kansas State 12-4 last night to force a decisive third game in the NCAA super regional series. Michael Conforto and Dylan Davis hit back-to-back home runs in a five-run first inning. Oregon State’s Tyler Smith and Kavin Keyes each had four hits and Oregon State combined for a season high 21 hits. The deciding game is tonight at 10 p.m. EDT.

SEATTLE (AP) – U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s decision to add Brad Evans to the roster for World Cup qualifying matches is now looking like a stroke of genius. Evans scored the unlikely game-winner to beat Jamaica on Friday night and earn a critical three points in the Americans’ attempt to qualify for next year’s World Cup. Now Evans comes back to Seattle – where he plays in Major League Soccer – for tomorrow night’s match against Panama.
