PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Parts of eastern Oregon can expect another day of 100-degree heat today while marine air pushing in from the coast has started reducing high temperatures in western Oregon. Forecasters expect a downward trend in temperatures through the end of the week.

TROUTDALE, Ore. (AP) – Troutdale police say searchers have been unable to find a 7-year-old boy lost in the Sandy River. The boy and his 9-year-old brother were pulled into the current Sunday while playing in the water at Glen Otto Park. Life guards saved the 9-year-old as the 7-year-old disappeared. Police say the intensive search is over, but officers will continue to look along the river banks.

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. (AP) – A fire last night caused severe damage to a car wash at a gas station in Happy Valley. Clackamas Fire District 1 says the fire was temporarily upgraded to a two-alarm because of its proximity to the gas station. Two people received minor injuries escaping the blaze. The Oregonian reports the fire was quickly extinguished. No cars were damaged. The cause of the blaze is unknown.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Legislature has voted to join the vast majority of states in making paying for sex with a minor a felony on the first conviction. The Oregon House gave final legislative approval yesterday, sending the bill to the governor for signature. Penalties for a buyer convicted for the first time of having sex with a minor include a $10,000 fine, at least 30 days in jail and completion of a rehabilitative program for johns.
