The Spokane Indians broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the eighth inning last night and then held on for a two-nothing win over the Eugene Emeralds at PK Park. It was the first game after the Northwest League All Star break. Spokane and Eugene meet again this evening… their five game series runs through Monday evening.
Last season the comparison was made that Brandin Cooks was Robin to Markus Wheaton’s Batman in Oregon State’s dynamic receiving duo. Now Wheaton has moved on to the NFL and Cooks is ready to shed his sidekick status. He says it means he’s going to have to work harder, carry the load and be a leader to the players coming up… just as Wheaton did.
The Beavers finished 9-4 last year, finishing third in the tough Pac-12 North; coming in at number 20 in the final AP Top 25.
