SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – A Springfield medical marijuana grower is facing an assault charge for shooting a man caught clipping buds from his backyard crop. Police did not arrest Josiah Shirley after the shooting last month that wounded the suspect in the leg. A grand jury indicted him this week and he was taken into custody yesterday. The Register-Guard reports his arraignment was scheduled for today.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Marion County deputies say an inmate who escaped in July from an Oregon prison has been captured at a burglary scene in Salem. Franco Armando Moreno Jr. and a woman were arrested Monday after a deputy responding to a suspicious-vehicle call found a home’s front door open and cars in the driveway with their trunks and doors open. Those cars were found to be recently stolen. Moreno had escaped from the Mill Creek Correctional Facility in Salem.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A 19-year-old man arrested after a high-speed chase in a car belonging to a 71-year-old Portland-area woman has been charged with murder in her death. Micus Ward of Kansas City and a 17-year-old great-grandson of the victim were both arrested last Saturday in northeast Oregon in Jacqueline Bell’s Lexus. Washington County sheriff’s deputies found the woman dead in her home that day.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police say a supervisor for the Oregon Department of Revenue has been making counterfeit currency at his home in Keizer for a year. Authorities arrested 29-year-old Michael Dietrich yesterday after seizing equipment they believe was used to manufacture counterfeit bills. Police say they also seized a small amount of counterfeit $20 and $50 bills, methamphetamine, scales and packaging materials. Dietrich’s wife also was arrested.
