(AP) – A letter carrier’s spray intended to fend off aggressive dogs accidentally went off inside a Portland, Ore., post office yesterday, sending three employees to the hospital to have their eyes flushed. Firefighters deployed sensors for biological, radiological and chemical hazards. A Portland Fire Bureau spokesman says he doesn’t know how the spray was discharged.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley was among the Democrats who met with President Obama over problems with the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. Merkley said yesterday the enrollment period should be extended for every day that people can’t sign up online. Merkley was among 16 Senate Democrats facing re-election who met with the president.
MILTON-FREEWATER, Ore. (AP) – Classes have been canceled for the rest of the week at a northeastern Oregon school after a custodian found a bullet hole in the front door and the bullet in a door down the hall. Pleasant View Alternative School Principal Suzy Mayes said yesterday the shot must have been fired overnight Tuesday. The East Oregonian reports the Umatilla County sheriff’s office is investigating.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A judge has dismissed an aggravated murder charge after determining that a woman accused of fatally shooting a Eugene police officer in 2011 remains too mentally ill for trial. The Register-Guard reported yesterday Cheryl Kidd will remain at the Oregon State Hospital for another two years. Kidd was accused of killing motorcycle Officer Chris Kilcullen when he pulled up to her car at a traffic light in Springfield.
