PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – LaMarcus Aldridge had a season-high 38 points and added 13 rebounds and the Portland Trail Blazers snapped Oklahoma City’s eight-game winning streak with a 111-104 victory over the Thunder last night. Portland has won 14 of its last 15 games. The win also snapped Oklahoma City’s seven-game winning streak against the Blazers.
SEATTLE (AP) – Washington has selected Marques Tuiasosopo as its interim head coach for the Huskies’ upcoming bowl game after Steve Sarkisian left for USC. Tuiasosopo was Washington’s quarterbacks coach this past season and met with athletic director Scott Woodward yesterday. The 34-year-old Tuiasosopo was a quarterback at Washington from 1997-2000, leading the Huskies to a Rose Bowl title in 2000.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) -Pete Carroll believed the Seattle Seahawks defense didn’t need gimmicks to shut down New Orleans and he was right. Monday night’s game highlighted the versatility of Seattle’s linebackers. K.J. Wright hounded Saints tight end Jimmy Graham all night. Wright said yesterday that it was one of the better games of his career.
ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – Kansas City Royals right-hander Jeremy Guthrie has offered to help pay for a new football-playing surface at Ashland High School – his alma mater. The Ashland Daily Tidings reports the former three-sport star and valedictorian raised the idea this past summer to his former football coach. Replacing the field with synthetic grass is projected to cost at least $500,000.
