SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Sen. Larry George says he’ll leave the Oregon Legislature after the 2014 election. The two-term Republican from Sherwood announced yesterday that he won’t seek re-election next year. Republican Rep. Kim Thatcher of Keizer announced that she would seek George’s Senate seat, and talk-show host Bill Post said he plans to run for Thatcher’s seat in the House.

GRAND RONDE, Ore. (AP) – A dispute over enrollment has divided members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, which operates Oregon’s largest tribal casino. The Salem Statesman Journal reports a tribal leader has said some might not be Native American. The tribal council has moved to drop 13 members from enrollment. The tribe has grown by almost 50 percent since it opened its casino.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Three former executives of a Bend company that collapsed in 2008 amid fraud charges were sentenced Monday. The Oregonian reported a U. S. District Court judge sentenced Mark Neuman, co-founder of Summit Accommodators, to more than six years and senior executives Timothy Larkin and Lane Lyons to more than four years, all on fraud and money laundering convictions.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s jobless rate has fallen to 7.3 percent for November. That is its lowest point in more than five years. The Oregon Employment Department said yesterday that job growth has been recorded in 12 of the last 14 months. The last time the Oregon unemployment rate was so low was in September 2008, when it was 7.2 percent.
