PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Persuaded by a man’s argument that his campsite was his home, the Oregon Court of Appeals has reversed his conviction for illegally carrying a concealed weapon. The Oregonian reports that the appeals court held that 66-year-old David Wolf was entitled to tell jurors at his trial that Oregon law makes an exception to carrying a concealed weapon without a permit if a person is at home.
DALLAS, Ore. (AP) – The Polk County sheriff’s office says it’s investigating the suspicious death of a 29-year-old Oregon man. The sheriff’s office identified the man last night as James Watson Hawkes IV of Independence. The body was reported Sunday night in the woods 12 miles south of Dallas. Sheriff Bob Wolfe said Hawkes had been jailed on Nov. 21 for failure to appear for possession of methamphetamine.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – The Josephine Board of County Commissioners has voted to keep the county fairgrounds open through the end of this fiscal year. The commissioners also voted yesterday to go ahead with the 2014 fair in Grants Pass, which will be the county’s 100th.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Tyreke Evans hit a jumper from 17 feet with 1.2 seconds left and the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Portland Trail Blazers 110-108 last night. Evans’ big basket came right after Portland’s Damian Lillard, who has hit several game-winners this season, made a contested 3-pointer to tie the score at 108.
