The unbeaten Sutherlin Bulldogs surged to a 20-nothing lead in the first quarter, then cruised to a 55-28 Far West League basketball victory last night. Siuslaw struggled against a team that had not lost a Far West game since February of 2011. Ashlee Cole led scoring with 11 points.
In other Far West games last night, South Umpqua demolished North Bend 48 – 39; Brookings-Harbor edged Marshfield 33 -31. Douglas had the night off.
In the Mountain West, Mapleton beat Eddyville 38 – 31.
2A Reedsport fell to 3A Coquille 77 -36.
For the boys, the Vikings dug themselves in a hole in the second half and then broke the shovel, falling to Sutherlin 52-42 to remain winless in the Far West League. J.B. Dodson led scoring for the Vikings with 17 points.
Elsewhere in the Far West, Marshfield downed the former number one ranked Brookings-Harbor Bruins 52 – 45. North Bend beat South Umpqua 63 – 45.
Reedsport fell to Coquille 59 -14 and in the Mountain West Mapleton doubled Eddyville 60 -30.
