PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The 10-year-old Portland boy who was injured in a 40-foot fall at Silver Falls State Park has been released from the hospital to finish recovering at home. Wilson Pelot was on a hike with his family when he leaned against a broken railing Sunday and fell off the trail near the Lower South Falls. The Statesman Journal reports his father, Liam Pelot, says he may consider filing a claim to help pay medical bills.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Trial has begun in a lawsuit seeking $42 million for a brain-damaged Portland-area woman injured in a crash involving a driver who had used meth. A lawyer for the guardians of Cayla Wilson told jurors that a Clackamas County probation officer and a Portland police officer failed to confront Jack Whiteaker and thus prevent the 2010 crash. The Oregonian reports that lawyers for the defendants give their opening statements today.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Representatives of Portland Public Schools and the Portland Association of Teachers plan to meet today for the first time since contract talks stalled on Jan. 16. The Oregonian reports that the new meeting was scheduled after the parties talked yesterday with Mayor Charlie Hales at City Hall.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Roberto Nelson scored 26 points and hit 11 free throws to help Oregon State beat Washington State 66-55 last night in the Beavers’ first conference road win. D.J. Shelton scored a career-high 24 points arc for Washington State.
