SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An 18-year-old Silverton man has been wounded by a ricochet bullet while target shooting with four other teens in a wooded area. Marion County deputies say one of the friends shot a steel target at close range with a high-caliber rifle and the bullet hit the victim in the neck. He was treated at a hospital and released. No charges will be filed, but the sheriff reminds target shooters to follow safety precautions.
LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) – A Portland woman arrested in a wrong-way crash in Longview, Wash., that killed one man and injured seven other people has posted bail. The Daily News reports that court records say Nichole Difuria McCaslin told police she’d had two beers about three hours before the crash Friday night. The mishap killed Brett Dawdy of Longview, who was driving his wife, daughter and a friend back from a ski trip.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon lawmakers will not restrict pesticides suspected of causing bumblebee die-offs in Wilsonville and Hillsboro last summer. But the Senate did pass a bill yesterday requiring more education for licensed pesticide applicators using the chemicals and creating a task force focused on protecting bee health. It also forms a panel to study additional bee-protection measures the Legislature could take up next year.
CHENEY, Wash. (AP) – Kyle Richardson scored 22 points and pulled in eight rebounds, pacing Portland State past Eastern Washington 87-76 last night. The Vikings shot 48 percent from the field and hit 11 3-pointers. Eastern Washington shot 51 percent, but went just 4 of 15 from beyond the arc. Tyler Harvey led the Eagles with 23 points.
