Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…
Baseball Suspensions Effect Schedule
Three games were forfeit this week by the Siuslaw baseball squad. The team was preparing to leave yesterday morning for the two-day North Marion tournament when the trip was abruptly cancelled. Several members of the team were temporarily suspended for a violation of team rules according to administrators. It’s not known how long the suspensions will last and no other details were released.
Athlete of the Week
Siuslaw track and field standout Mikaela Siegel is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week. The sophomore sprinter had two personal records in last week’s Siuslaw Ice Breaker, winning the 100 meter hurdles with the 9th fastest time in school history and the fastest time in the 4A ranks so far this year… 16.98 seconds. Her second place finish in the long jump, also a personal best, was 15-feet, 6.25-inches.
Honorable mention goes to Viking senior Ashlee Cole who was three-for-four at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored in a non-league softball loss Thursday. When the game was over, she put down her bat and picked up a shot put, winning first place at the Siuslaw Ice Breaker. She also finished second in the javelin.
College Basketball – Women
The Oregon women soared early last night, then crashed hard down the stretch, ending their season with a 93-85 loss to Pac-12 rival Washington in the WNIT. Oregon had a 12-point lead at the half but saw it vanish in the second period. It was the final game for coach Paul Westhead. His contract was not extended.
The Oregon State women are still on the court. They’ll face number one seed South Carolina in the second round of the Women’s NCAA tournament this evening.
College Baseball
The Oregon Ducks are in San Francisco today where they’ll face the Dons. Oregon State will host the Seattle Red Hawks in Corvallis.
