Siuslaw Wins Far West Opener
Connor Qualley went the distance on the mound and Siuslaw downed South Umpqua 6-nothing yesterday in the Vikings’ first outing of the Far West League Baseball season.

College Baseball
Number 19 Oregon completed a two-game non-league sweep of Gonzaga yesterday with a 14-5 win in Spokane. The Ducks broke open the game with a five-run second inning, then had to rally when the Bulldogs tied it in the fourth. The six-run fifth inning put Oregon ahead 11-5 and the Ducks tacked on insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.
The Ducks will travel to Seattle tomorrow where they’ll open a three-game Pac-12 series against Washington. Number six Oregon State will be at home for a three-game series against Stanford.
College Softball
Dani Gilmore went 3-for-4 and Hannah Bouska was 3-for-3 to lead a 13-hit attack for Oregon State in an 8-1 softball victory over UC Santa Barbara yesterday. The Gauchos were coming off a double-header sweep of Oregon on Tuesday.
Prep Equestrian
The final district competition for the South Valley Oregon High School Equestrian Teams is going on today and through Sunday at the Oregon Horse Center in Eugene. The South Valley district includes 24 teams from the southwest corner of the state, including Siuslaw and Mapleton.
