Vikings Improve to 4-0 in FWL
Connor Qualley went the distance on the mound for his third straight win yesterday as Siuslaw downed Marshfield 8-3 for a Far West baseball win. Qualley scattered five hits over seven innings and struck out seven in the effort. The Vikings were strong at the plate, putting up 14 hits in all… three of those off the bat of Billy Jones. Kenneth Thrall had two hits… a single, a double, and four RBI.

Viking Softball fell on the road in Coos Bay yesterday, losing 12-6 to Marshfield.

Prep Track and Field
There were teams from eight schools in competition on the track yesterday in Waldport. The boys’ team from Mapleton finished in third, the girls fourth. The Sailors were powered by 800 meter winner Chris Free and their 4-by-100 relay team. But, it was Tucker Ford who picked up the most points for Mapleton, finishing 2nd in the 3-thousand and High Jump, as well as third in the 15-hundred and fifth in the javelin. For the girls, Maddy Frelich won the 200 meters, the 100 meter hurdles and the javelin.
College Baseball
On the diamond… Oregon scored 9 runs in the first inning, then held on for a 15-10 win over the Portland Pilots yesterday in Eugene. The two teams meet again this evening in Portland.
