SEATTLE (AP) – Chris Young pitched shutout ball until Albert Pujols homered in the seventh inning, Robinson Cano had three hits and two RBIs to raise his average to .332, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Angels 5-1 yesterday. Young (4-2) kept the Angels without a hit until Kole Calhoun’s single with one out in the sixth inning. An inning later, Pujols hit his 506th career home run.
SEATTLE (AP) – Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton will be slowed the next few days because of a bone bruise on his surgically repaired left thumb. Hamilton said he was jammed on a pitch and it would have been better had his bat shattered instead of his hand absorbing the force. He’s not expected to try and hit again until at least tomorrow, which marks the final game of the series against the Seattle Mariners.
UNDATED (AP) – The Oregon State Beavers are the No. 1 national seed in baseball’s postseason for the first time in school history. The Beavers will host UNLV, UC Irvine and North Dakota State in the Corvallis Regional this weekend at Goss Stadium to kick off the NCAA tournament.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Jake Muzzin, Marian Gaborik and captain Dustin Brown scored in a dominant first period, and the Los Angeles Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 last night to take a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference final. Muzzin and Drew Doughty each had a goal and an assist, and Jonathan Quick made 22 saves. Game 5 is tomorrow in Chicago.
