WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court is refusing to halt a federal judge’s order declaring Oregon’s same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional. The order follows an emergency appeal by the National Organization for Marriage that seeks to overturn the May 19 ruling of U.S. District Judge Michael McShane. Hundreds of same-sex Oregon couples have obtained marriage licenses since McShane’s order.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Federal authorities say a bank robbery fugitive from Washington state is back in custody after officers using an automated license plate reader spotted a stolen car in a Fred Meyer parking lot. The U.S. attorney’s office said 45-year-old Bradley Robinett was convicted in 2004. He never checked in at his halfway house and has been on the run ever since.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Water Bureau says two dead birds were discovered at the bottom of a reservoir where E. coli contamination was detected last month. A Portland Water Bureau spokesman told The Oregonian that the city doesn’t plan any tests to see whether there’s a link between the birds and the E. coli contamination in Reservoir 5.
UNDATED (AP) – A mysterious disease that causes sea stars to disintegrate is exploding on the Oregon Coast. An Oregon State University marine ecologist says Oregon was largely spared last year as the disease known as sea star wasting syndrome spread in California, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. But monitoring of tide pools along much of the coast shows the number of sea stars affected has jumped from just 1 percent in April to as high as 50 percent.
