BEND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Bend say a cattle truck crashed into a BNSF Railway overpass, causing heavy damage to the truck. Some of the 76 cows and calves were killed. KTVZ-TV reports that police say says neither the truck’s driver nor a passenger was injured yesterday afternoon. Police, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and city and county public works crews spent hours trying to safely remove the cattle.

ALOHA, Ore. (AP) – Washington County sheriff’s deputies say a robber wearing a surgical mask attacked a female clerk as she was locking up for the night, hitting her in the head with “something very solid and heavy.” The clerk at the business in Aloha, west of Portland, was taken to a hospital with what was called significant but not life-threatening head injuries. The thief remains at large.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A small contingent of canvassers for one of Oregon’s two marijuana-legalization measures has announced a strike in protest of paychecks that were either late or bounced. A dozen people held a short protest yesterday outside the offices of the Campaign for the Restoration and Regulation of Hemp. A campaign spokesman acknowledged that paychecks were late, but says employees were awarded about $200 each for the delay.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A Deschutes (De-SHOOTS) County sheriff’s officer says deputies have rescued two women from Chicago who called for help while hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail in central Oregon. Deputy Liam Klatt says the women had been hiking a 500-mile section of the trail from Willamette Pass bound for Mount Rainier.
