The Siuslaw Vikings edged the Douglas Trojans in five games on the volleyball court last night, game five went to 15-10. Coach Angie Herring said Halee Richards played an outstanding game, showing great leadership on the court and scoring 20 kills.  Hannah Bartlett recorded 50 assists and had two aces.

Elyssa Rose had 13 kills and three stuff blocks for the Vikings who even their Far West League record to one-and-one. Siuslaw travels to Brookings Tuesday.

In other Far West League volleyball action last night, Marshfield knocked off South Umpqua in three; North Bend downed Brookings in three.

 

In the Mountain West, Triangle Lake handled Mapleton in three sets last night. The Sailors will be at Siletz Tuesday.

 

On the prep gridiron this evening, the Siuslaw Vikings will be in Myrtle Creek for the Far West League opener against South Umpqua. The pregame show on 106.9 is set for 6:45 with kickoff at seven.  Mapleton is at Falls City.

 

Invitational cross country action tomorrow morning will gather participants from 20 different middle and high schools for the Woahink Invitational. Middle school race begins at 10am, the high school girls varsity race begins at 11:45, the boys varsity race at 1:15.  Motorist around Clear Lake and the Honeyman State Park area should expect congestion and drive with caution through mid-afternoon.

 

On the college field, Number two Oregon has tomorrow off in preparation for a Thursday game next week against Arizona. Oregon State is in Los Angeles for a 7:30 game tomorrow night against USC.  The pregame show on KCFM is at 6:30.
