A Rose by any other name is still Athlete of the Week
Siuslaw basketball standout Elyssa Rose is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week. The sophomore post player led the Vikings with a season and career high 12 points; half of those in the fourth quarter; in a weekend victory over the Rogue River Chieftans.
Honorable mention is given to Siuslaw wrestler Dylan Jennings who had what was described as a “breakout” weekend at the 36-team Grants Pass Invitational, bringing home the fourth place medal at 285 pounds.
Oregon holds on for OT win
It was an up and down night for the Oregon Ducks last night on the court as the held off U-C Santa Barbara, 82-78 in overtime for their fourth straight win.
Oregon got off to a big lead early, then gave it up by half time. The Ducks fell into a hole in the second half and battled back to retake the lead late in the game. Joe Young had a chance to win it for Oregon with two-seconds remaining in regulation, but a missed free throw sent the game to overtime.
The Matadors jumped on top early in the extra period, but Jalil Abdul-Bassit scored the final seven points of the game to ice it for Oregon.
