PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Several police cars were hit during a chase of a stolen in northeast Portland early today. Sergeant Pete Simpson tells KATU the driver took off on foot but was eventually captured. He told police he had been released from prison last week and fled because he didn’t want to go back to prison. No injuries were reported.
CORNELIUS, Ore. (AP) – Court documents show a 20-year-old woman accused of first-degree arson in a weekend fire that destroyed an Oregon duplex told sheriff’s deputies she left a burning placemat in the home. The Oregonian reports Caitlyn McCarthy of Cornelius told deputies she lit a cotton placemat on fire and put it on a couch Saturday evening.
BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) – Baker City has permanently installed equipment in its water treatment plant to guard against an intestinal illness that sickened thousands of people in 2013. The Baker City Herald reports a $3 million system uses ultraviolet light to kill the parasite. The July 2013 hasn’t returned, but its cause hasn’t been pinpointed.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A cat that accidentally got sold with a mattress set is back home after 10 days on his own. Roy Dufek says the cat named Camo was hiding in the box spring and probably scurried out when the buyer took it off the car roof. Dufek says his girlfriend caught the cat Saturday after a woman reported seeing him in a Portland suburb.
