The Big Ten champion Buckeyes advanced with a 42-35 win over Alabama last night in the Sugar Bowl, while the Ducks eliminated Florida State 59-20 in the Rose Bowl. Oregon scored touchdowns off three Florida State turnovers, two by quarterback Jameis (JAY’-mihs) Winston in the second half.
ALOHA, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County sheriff’s office says a deputy shot and killed a man in a confrontation early this morning at an apartment in Aloha. Sgt. Bob Ray tells KGW officers were responding to a domestic disturbance when a man with a handgun emerged from a back room, refused to drop a weapon and was shot by at least one deputy.
ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say two people were killed and a 7-year-old boy was seriously injured in a head-on collision last night on Highway 34 in Linn County. Troopers say one driver died at the scene and the other at a Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. The boy was taken to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.
SHERIDAN, Ore. (AP) – Troopers have tracked down a driver suspected in the hit-and-run crash that killed a 66-year-old woman in a wheelchair on Highway 18b near Sheridan. The Statesman Journal reports troopers believe 81-year-old Tom Mishler of Sheridan was behind the wheel yesterday morning when the crash killed 66-year-old Connie Nickeson.
