PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – About 50 taxi drivers parked in downtown Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square yesterday to protest the city’s approach to regulating ridesharing services such as Uber. Radio Cab driver Babak Talaee tells the Oregonian he can’t afford to lose a single customer to an independent rideshare driver “playing by special rules.”

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Governor John Kitzhaber and his fiancee, Cylvia Hayes, have hired lawyers as they face scrutiny over Hayes’ consulting work. In a statement issued Tuesday, the governor’s office says the couple hired lawyers Steve Janik and Jim McDermott in November to help prepare for an investigation by the Oregon Government Ethics Commission.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Governor John Kitzhaber says he has been diagnosed with a minor form of skin cancer on his face. The governor told the Oregonian yesterday that he will undergo outpatient surgery in six to eight weeks to remove the pea-sized lesion from his left cheek. Kitzhaber, a former emergency room physician, says he’s “healthy as a horse.”

WASHINGTON (AP) – The U.S. senators from Ohio and Oregon settled their friendly bet on college football’s championship, with Oregon’s senators showing support for the winning Ohio State Buckeyes on the U.S. Capitol steps Tuesday. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley of Oregon joined Senatores Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman of Ohio on Tuesday in spelling out “O-H-I-O” with their bodies to settle up.
