Siuslaw Wrestlers Score in Sutherlin
Siuslaw Wrestling finished fifth out of 17 teams at the Sutherlin Wrestling Invitational Saturday. Ricky Huff brought home the Vikings’ sole championship, demolishing the 106 pound weight class in the process. Jose Dela Mora was 2nd at 120. Siuslaw had three fourth-place finishes… John Mulholland at 113; Kainan Lane at 220; and Dylan Jennings at 285.
On the basketball court…
The Viking girls jumped to a 13-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back for a 55-24 Far West league win over the South Umpqua Lancers Friday night in Florence. Destinie Tatum led scoring with ten points. Halee Richards had nine points and 12 rebounds; Elyssa Rose had four blocked shots to go with her seven points. In other Far West contests: Douglas beat North Bend 59-50; Brookings-Harbor downed Marshfield 57-40.

Joseph Young led five Oregon scorers in double figures with 16 points as the Ducks rode 75-percent shooting from the field in the first half to an 82-64 victory over UCLA Saturday in Eugene. The Ducks ended the game shooting 33 of 53, or 62.3-percent from the field.
In Corvallis, Gary Payton II recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and ten rebounds as Oregon State squeezed out a 59-55 win over USC at home. Jarmal Reid add 14 points, including the go-ahead basket with 10:02 remaining as the Beavers won their third in a row and improved to 12-0 at Gill Coliseum.
