PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Federal officials say an Oregon businessman must pay 33 employees more than $512,000 in unpaid wages and damages after being caught in a scheme to avoid paying overtime. The Labor Department says David Emami of West Linn and three of his companies willfully violated the overtime and record-keeping provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – A Deschutes County sheriff’s spokesman says a 70-year-old man has been found dead after his family reported him overdue on a hike. Lt. Chad Davis said yesterday that a deputy found the body of James Holcomb on a Forest Service road south of Sisters after relatives notified the sheriff’s office Saturday night that the man was overdue. Davis says Holcomb apparently suffered a medical emergency.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a July 2014 shooting outside a Portland strip club that killed one person and wounded four others. The Oregonian reports that investigators say Jontae Mixon felt disrespected after an argument outside the club and responded by shooting into a crowd, killing Hahrahcio Branch.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Jamie Weisner scored all 18 of her points in the first half to help No. 7 Oregon State beat UCLA 82-64 last night. Ruth Hamblin added 15 points and 12 rebounds and Sydney Wiese added 13 points and nine assists for the Beavers, who had five players score in double figures.
