SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A bill requiring businesses to give employees paid sick leave is now advancing in the Oregon Legislature. The bill would require employers with at least 10 workers to grant up to five days off per year. Smaller employers would have to offer unpaid time off. Supporters say workers shouldn’t have to choose between forgoing pay and showing up sick for work. Critics worry it will add significant new costs for businesses.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say contractors clearing overgrown brush from the backyard of an elderly Portland man missing since last Christmas have found human remains in an area previously checked by search and rescue dogs. Sgt. Pete Simpson said the remains appear to be a match for 83-year-old Jerry Boyer, who lived at the home. Simpson says an initial investigation at the scene has found no sign of foul play.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The husband and the son of a pregnant Oregon woman who died in a rollover crash seek millions in a lawsuit filed against three businesses. Attorneys representing Heriberto Barajas and the 5-year-old boy allege Continental Tire manufactured a tire that was defective. The crash happened in Iowa, where a state trooper’s report said a rear tire on the SUV deflated, causing the driver to lose control.

The Oregonian reports that 33-year-old Brett Robinson was sentenced Tuesday based on the recommendation of a presentence investigation.
