EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Lane County Sheriff’s Office says a would-be robber instead became a victim when the resident of the Eugene home he entered injured his head and face. The Register-Guard of Eugene reports that in his mugshot, Robert Tinkham is seen with visible injuries to his face and a large bandage on his head. At the hospital, deputies arrested Tinkham for investigation of second-degree robbery, fourth-degree assault and menacing.
LAVEVIEW, Ore. (AP) – State Police say a Tennessee man carrying 61 pounds of marijuana in his car was arrested in southern Oregon. KPTV-TV reports that a trooper stopped an SUV near Lakeview on Tuesday after noticing that the driver was failing to stay in his lane and was impeding traffic. A search of the vehicle found 31 individually sealed packages of marijuana in the trunk.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A young homeless man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the October stabbing death of a downtown Portland resident. The Oregonian reports that Andrew Metzner said he didn’t realize at first that he’d stabbed victim Mark Sundin in the heart.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Three former employees have sued BNSF Railway, claiming they suffer from lung disease caused by job-related exposure to asbestos. The lawsuit filed yesterday in Portland says the men had to work with and around items that contained asbestos while employed by the railway and its predecessor, Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway. A company spokesman declined to comment.
