SEATTLE (AP) – Erasmo Ramirez beat his former team, combining with four relievers to help the Tampa Bay Rays defeat the Seattle Mariners 2-1 last night. Ramirez (4-2), who was traded to the Rays on March 31, held Seattle to one run and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five. Xavier Cedeno, Brandon Gomes, Jake McGee and Kevin Jepsen gave up three hits and no runs over the final 3 2/3 innings.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners have designated for assignment backup outfielder Justin Ruggiano to clear a roster spot for the addition of reserve catcher Jesus Sucre from Triple-A Tacoma. Seattle was limited on options for clearing a roster spot, leaving Ruggiano, Rickie Weeks or Willie Bloomquist as likely candidates to be designated.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks have promoted Scott Fitterer and Trent Kirchner to the role of co-directors of player personnel. Fitterer has been Seattle’s director of college scouting since 2011 and Kirchner was the director of pro personnel from 2013-14. Kirchner interviewed for the general manager position with the New York Jets this past offseason. The pair will oversee the college scouting and pro personnel departments.

SEATTLE (AP) – Washington coach Lorenzo Romar has dipped into the pool of former players and hired Will Conroy as his new assistant basketball coach. Conroy, a Seattle native, played at Washington from 2001-05. He initially joined the program as a walk-on but went on to have a stellar career, finishing as the school’s all-time leader in assists with 515.
