GOLD HILL, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police troopers are investigating after a patrol car driven by a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy struck and injured a 35-year-old man who was walking on Interstate 5 near Medford. Investigators say the deputy was driving north Saturday night when something hit the right side of the vehicle. He initially thought it was a deer but realized after stopping it was a person.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – More than 1,000 apartment units are under construction or being planned in Bend, development that’s expected to help ease a housing crunch in the city. The Bulletin newspaper reports that Bend has recovered many of the jobs it lost during the recession and is even starting to gain jobs, which are being filled by newcomers. Housing is already a problem for many of them, and employers complain that some new employees are commuting from as far as Prineville.
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – A strange looking dark-gray vehicle, equipped with nearly two dozen cameras and being driven around the city is virtually mapping Springfield’s 470-mile public street network. The imaging, strictly for internal city use, will help government employees schedule and track maintenance of the public improvements without having to step outside.
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – The city of Klamath Falls has selected John Barsalou to be director of the airport. The Herald and News reports that Barsalou was one of 50 applicants for the position at Crater Lake-Klamath Regional Airport. He starts the job July 29.
