EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Eugene School District will drop its public records lawsuit against The Register-Guard under a settlement between the district and the newspaper. The Register-Guard reports that it had filed a request with the district for public records regarding Superintendent Sheldon Berman’s performance. After the district denied the request, the Lane County DA’s Office ordered the district to release a number of the records. In response, the school district sued the newspaper.

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Crook County is looking into using shipping containers for other uses, including tiny homes, art studies and storage. The Bulletin in Bend reports that the County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing June 24 to consider adopting codes regulating building with cargo containers, the huge shipping containers with corrugates sides.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon lawmakers are still working on the regulations that will govern the legal recreational marijuana industry, which is not expected to start selling to the public until late next year. There is strong support for allowing the medical marijuana dispensaries operating the past year to expand to offer recreational marijuana.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Cardiologist with Providence Heart and Vascular Institute say they have successfully used a novel procedure to replace a woman’s heart valve while she was pregnant, minimizing risk to her and her baby. The hospital says the procedure is the first of its kind performed on a pregnant woman in the Northwest, and likely a first in the U.S. The baby was born on May 12.
