Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

GLADSTONE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a 22-year-old man who had been swimming with a cousin in the Clackamas River has died. The county water rescue team located the man in about seven feet of water last evening but he could not be revived. He was not immediately identified. Gladstone fire officials say the area is where the Clackamas meets the Willamette River.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Fire officials in Clackamas County say one person has been found dead after a mobile home fire. KATU-TV of Portland reports that firefighters say they arrived at the Johnson City Trailer Park yesterday to find black smoke pouring from the home. Once inside, they found one person dead. The victim was not immediately identified.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Two Oregon state senators may not always be on the same side, but when crisis hit they certainly were. KATU-TV reports that when Democrat Sen. Alan Bates received a note that Republican Sen. Alan Olsen wanted to see him, he initially dismissed it until he was told it was for a medical reason. He rushed to see Olsen, who had suffered a heart attack. Bates, a physician, says he’s been getting some gentle ribbing about helping save a conservative, but that it’s all in jest. He says he’d always help a colleague.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Investigators say a house fire that caused $100,000 in damages to a northwest Bend home was started by the spontaneous combustion of World War II-era smokeless gunpowder left on the back deck without a lid. KTVZ-TV reports that neighbors spotted the blaze Monday and used a garden hose to keep it from spreading after calling 911.
