COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) – The Coos County sheriff’s office in southwest Oregon says a 45-year-old Myrtle Creek man has died in a logging accident. Deputies said a load of logs was being pulled to a log landing yesterday when one of the logs swung around and fatally struck Darrell Carmichael. Carmichael was working on a tree-thinning project for the BLM.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland motorcyclist is in serious condition after he collided head-on with a car, causing both vehicles to burst into flames. KATE-TV reports that Sean Henderson’s motorcycle crashed into a 56-year-old woman’s car last night in Washington County. Deputies suspect the motorcycle’s gas tank ruptured, causing both vehicles to ignite. The woman was not hurt and was cited for improper use of a special turn lane.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge sentenced a Washington man to six years in prison for brazenly stealing 22 handguns from a Fred Meyer store in Newberg, Oregon. The authorities and store security said Mark Reyna broke into a display case last summer and put the handguns into a backpack he pilfered from the store.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 12-week-old kitten will soon undergo surgery to have part of a bullet or gun pellet removed from her cheek after she was found shot in the head and left in a Portland dumpster. KATU-TV reports that the kitten, dubbed Lucy, was found May 28 and brought to the Oregon Humane Society. It’s unknown how long she was left in the trash. A $5,000 reward is offered for information that leads to the person or persons who shot Lucy.
