SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. Kate Brown is saluting the courage of an Oregon National Guard soldier who helped stop a gunman on a high-speed train in Europe. The governor said Alek Skarlatos of Roseburg “is the pride of Oregon.” Skarlatos was among three Americans and one Briton who disarmed the gunman Friday as the train traveled from Amsterdam to Paris. The four men today received the Legion of Honor, France’s highest award.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A motorcycle driver in Portland is dead after a collision with a pickup truck last night. The driver of the pickup truck sustained traumatic injuries and was taken to a Portland hospital. The motorcycle driver died at the scene.
PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Pendleton, the small town in Eastern Oregon known of its rodeo and whiskey, is looking to Seattle hipsters for a tourism boost. The tourism authority Travel Pendleton last week revealed a marketing campaign it’s calling the Hipster Project. It aims to market Pendleton’s western flair to young urban dwellers.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Four-time defending Football Championship Subdivision champion North Dakota State University has lined up a game five years from now with Football Bowl Subdivision powerhouse Oregon. The matchup will be in Eugene, home of the Ducks. Oregon has won four straight bowl games and has appeared in two national title games the past five seasons. NDSU has won four straight FCS titles.
