SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An audit has concluded that Oregon technology managers never resolved known security vulnerabilities at a state data warehouse that stores a trove of sensitive information about Oregonians. The audit says the state data center has only recently begun addressing concerns outlined in at least 11 security audits or letters since 2006, and most of the weaknesses remain unresolved.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – One of the three Americans who helped stop a terror attack on a high-speed train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris has arrived in California. Sacramento’s KCRA-TV showed Anthony Sadler walking off a commercial plane at Sacramento International Airport, accompanied by his parents. Another American, U.S. Air Force Airman Spencer Stone, is undergoing treatment at a military hospital in Germany for injuries suffered in the attack. The third man, Oregon National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, is with Stone in Germany.
ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say asphalt used to repave an Ashland church driveway went into a storm drain and then into Ashland Creek. The Daily Tidings reports the asphalt spill traveled about a mile and apparently killed no fish. A spokesman with the Department of Environmental Quality says there is no way to get the compound out of the creek.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has ruled that it is illegal to use motorized vehicles to remove juniper in wilderness study areas near Oregon’s Steens Mountain. The Capital Press reports that the judge ruled against the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, which is cutting juniper from about 336,000 acres in the Steens Mountain Cooperative Management Area because the trees are crowding out native vegetation.
