KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah is not responding to a call from county commissioners that he go on leave pending the outcome of a criminal investigation of him by the state Attorney General’s Office. Instead, he released a copy of a letter he sent to the county’s lawyer suggesting eight patrol deputies who asked to be put on leave over alleged retaliation by him should give up their badges and guns, because he can’t properly supervise them.

MILL CITY, Ore. (AP) – Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley says a building in Milly City housing a sheriff’s substation and various city government offices has been destroyed by fire. The sheriff’s office says a city public works employee noticed a small fire. The building was evacuated. It houses the Mill City public works shop, library and an archive storage area. No injuries were reported.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Former state Sen. Chris Telfer says she’s running for state treasurer as a member of the Independent Party. Telfer is an accountant from Bend who served one term in the Oregon Senate as a Republican. She was defeated in the 2012 GOP primary by Tim Knopp. With 109,000 members, the Independent Party was certified this month as Oregon’s third major political party.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is looking to add as many as 17 new liquor stores. The OLCC says it’s open to a variety of business models, including a liquor store within an existing business. Liquor stores are independent businesses that earn a commission on every sale.
