EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy says she wants the city to have a conversation about young vagabonds occupying public spaces downtown. Piercy sent an email to the city manager and council members saying she wants public spaces to be for everyone to use. It’s unclear what Eugene could do to prevent people from sitting in public places.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A small plane crashed shortly after takeoff from an Oregon airport on Labor Day, killing two people. Witnesses said the plane burst into flames in the morning and rescuers found it burning in a field near the runway at the Creswell Airport, 15 miles south of Eugene. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office identified the pilot as 35-year-old Milo Skinner of Springfield and the lone passenger as 83-year-old Hal Skinner of Springfield. Hal Skinner owned the plane his grandson was piloting.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two teenagers and a 24-year-old man are suspects in a fatal home invasion. The Oregonian reports that Gresham police say four men attacked a 34-year-old mobile home resident and stabbed him with a knife before he got a pistol and began firing. A 25-year-old suspect died at the scene. Jesus Bucio is in custody on an unrelated probation violation, and will likely be charged in the attack.

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – A Prineville man died after he was thrown from a bull and stepped on at the Paulina Amateur Rodeo. The Crook County Sheriff’s Office reports 58-year-old contestant Richard Perry was competing in front of family and friends when the incident occurred.
