SEATTLE (AP) – Nelson Cruz reached 40 home runs for the second straight season, Felix Hernandez pitched three-hit ball for eight innings and the Seattle Mariners downed the Texas Rangers 5-0 yesterday. Texas was shut out for the second straight day. The Rangers’ lead for the second AL wild-card spot was cut to one game over idle Minnesota.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Portland Trail Blazers forward Mike Miller has filed a lawsuit aimed at recovering what remains of $1.7 million he said he lost in a Ponzi scheme. The Argus Leader reports Miller seeks to recover his investment in RAHFCO Hedge Funds. In 2013, the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a complaint saying Randy Hansen of Sioux Falls, the public face of RAHFCO, and Vincent Puma of New Jersey concocted phony account statements that misrepresented their trading.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Marshawn Lynch showed his support for holdout Kam Chancellor by wearing the star safety’s No. 31 jersey during practice yesterday. Lynch, who had his own contract issues with the Seahawks in the past, sported the blue practice jersey even though the offense was wearing white during preparations for Sunday’s season opener at St. Louis. Chancellor posted a picture of Lynch in his uniform to Instagram and thanked Lynch for the support.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) – Michigan has dismissed offensive lineman Logan Tuley-Tillman from the football team for what coach Jim Harbaugh called “conduct unacceptable for a Michigan student-athlete.” Michigan lost its opener at Utah last week, Harbaugh’s first game as the Wolverines’ coach. Michigan’s first home game is this weekend against Oregon State.
