PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon workers who make the minimum wage will not be getting a raise in 2016. Oregon’s minimum wage is re-calculated each year because of a state law passed by voters in 2002 that ties the minimum wage to inflation. Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian says inflation as measured by the federal Consumer Price Index was not high enough to trigger an increase in pay for 2016. Oregon’s minimum-wage workers will continue to make $9.25 per hour.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – An Oregon man is one of the seven who survived Tuesday’s deadly floatplane crash in Alaska. Alaska authorities say 23-year-old Robert Westbrook of Cottage Grove, Oregon was listed in fair condition at an Anchorage hospital. The plane crashed near the tiny town of Iliamna (ill-ee-AHM’-nuh) as it was taking off for a fishing trip.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police are seeking the public’s help regarding the deaths of a wolf pair in Wallowa County. Authorities declined to comment on how the wolves died. Authorities say the bodies were found three weeks ago, 50 yards of each other, in the Sled Springs area. One of the wolves was collared and its collar emitted a mortality signal, leading to the discovery.
RENO, Nev. (AP) – Owners of Reno’s minor league baseball team say they’ll hold a contest to name the United Soccer League team that will begin playing at Aces Ballpark in 2017. Current USL teams are based in Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Oregon; Sacramento, California; Arizona and New York.
