PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The state of Oregon has agreed to pay $286,000 to the technology manager who leaked former Gov. John Kitzhaber’s emails. In exchange, Michael Rodgers agreed last week to resign and not to sue the state. He acknowledged giving 6,000 emails from Kitzhaber’s personal Gmail account to a reporter for Willamette Week. Rodgers accused the state of subjecting him to “investigations without proper notice and an opportunity for a hearing.”
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Results from a survey on campus rape and sexual misconduct show that at least 20 percent of women from 27 universities, including the University of Oregon, have reported being assaulted while in college. The Register-Guard reports that the survey found that 24 percent of undergraduate women at UO reported experiencing nonconsensual sexual contact through force, which was slightly above that of the national rate of 23 percent.
COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) – Coquille officials are considering temporary housing plans for workers who are constructing the Jordan Cove liquefied natural gas project. The World reports that City Manager Ben Marchant has participated in discussions with Jordan Cove’s construction manager about possibly using the Riverfront Development area to house the laborers. The proposed housing plan would be a three-year deal.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – There are enough aggressive deer plodding along the city streets in Ashland that the mayor is planning a summit on the issue. The Oregonian reports deer have been hanging around neighborhoods in the 21,000-resident city of Ashland in southern Oregon for decades, and a state biologist says the animals have failed to develop a fear of people.
