PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon marijuana stores have begun sales to recreational users, marking a big day for the budding pot industry in the state. Some of the more than 250 dispensaries in Oregon that already offer medical marijuana opened their doors early today to begin selling the drug just moments after it became legal to do so.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The owners of a Portland-area bakery are refusing to pay $135,000 in state-ordered damages to a same-sex couple who were refused service. Melissa and Aaron Klein, owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, cited religious beliefs when they refused to bake a wedding cake for Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer more than two years ago. The Oregonian reports state officials have asked to place a lien on the Kleins’ property or other assets.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – While looking for a felon wanted on a parole violation, Salem police found and arrested his identical twin brother. The Oregonian reports that officers thought they spotted Cesar Munoz yesterday. When police confronted the man, they found he was not Cesar, but instead his twin brother Saul Munoz. Police say Saul Munoz was jailed on several charges while officers keep searching for his twin Cesar Munoz.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Horses at an Oregon rescue ranch may be wondering, “What’s up, doc?” as they munch on a huge supply of carrots. The Bend Bulletin reports the answer is that the 22 tons of carrots came from a truck that crashed last week. Since the spilled carrots could no longer be sold, they were scooped up and donated to Equine Outreach.
