PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Marco Belinelli had 32 points, including four 3-pointers, and the Sacramento Kings defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 109-105 in overtime last night, the preseason opener for both teams. DeMarcus Cousins started and finished with 22 points for the Kings. After leading by as many as 21 points in the first half, the Blazers had a 56-41 advantage at the break.
SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Seahawks held on for a 13-10 win on Monday night. Kam Chancellor punched the ball free from Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson at the 1-yard line when it appeared the Lions were going to take the lead. Russell Wilson was sacked six times and pulled numerous escape acts, but threw a TD pass to Doug Baldwin in the first half and Steven Hauschka hit a pair of field goals from 50-plus yards as Seattle evened its record at 2-2.
SEATTLE (AP) – The wait begins to see what the first big move of Jerry Dipoto’s tenure as general manager of the Seattle Mariners will be. The 2015 Mariners were one of the biggest disappointments in baseball. Instead of playing in the postseason for the first time since 2001, the Mariners now own the longest playoff drought in baseball at 14 seasons and counting. Seattle finished 76-86 after dropping nine of its final 11 games.
SEATTLE (AP) – A Seattle high school football player who was injured during a game last week has died. Kenney Bui died this morning after being injured during the fourth quarter on Friday in a game for Evergreen High School. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he underwent surgery and had been in critical condition over the weekend.
