LOS ANGELES (AP) – Myles Gaskin ran for 134 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown, and Washington shut down No. 17 Southern California’s high-powered offense throughout a 17-12 victory over the Trojans last night. Receiver Marvin Hall threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Perkins on a trick play early in the second half for the Huskies (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12), who beat former coach Steve Sarkisian in a defense-dominated meeting.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Allen Crabbe came off the bench to score 25 points, including five 3-pointers, and the Trail Blazers beat the defending champion Golden State Warriors 118-101 in a preseason game last night. Damian Lillard added 22 points for Portland before calling it a night at the end of the third quarter. Stephen Curry put up 30 points in 26 minutes for the Warriors in the loss, also sitting for the final quarter.
UNDATED (AP) — Washington State at Oregon promises to be one of the best matchups in the Pac 12 this weekend. The Ducks have two losses and are out of the AP for the first time in 98 weeks, but that may only add to the excitement of what should be an offensive show. Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense is again churning out passing yards, with Luke Falk leading the Pac-12 and ranking fifth nationally with 364.8 yards per game.
UNDATED (AP) — In the wake of the officiating mistake at the end of Detroit’s loss to Seattle on Monday night, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said rules for use of instant replay in officiating “clearly will be discussed again” by the powerful competition committee. NFL VP of Officiating Dean Blandino told the NFL Network that Seattle’s K.J. Wright should have been called for an illegal bat for hitting the ball out of the end zone. The penalty would have given the ball back to Detroit at the Seattle 1.
