SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Meyers Leonard scored 19 points to help the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Utah Jazz 88-81 in preseason action last night. The Blazers improved to 2-2 despite Damian Lillard sitting with a left ankle injury. Both teams struggled offensively as the Trail Blazers shot 39 percent from the field. The Jazz (2-2) made only 31 percent of their shots.

CHICAGO (AP) – Shannon Boxx, Lauren Holiday and Lori Chalupny will make their final appearances for the Women’s World Cup champion U.S. soccer team in exhibition games against Brazil. Boxx will play her final match Oct. 21 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, and Holiday and Chalupny will close their international careers Oct. 25 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Radim Vrbata and Alex Burrows scored in the shootout, and the Vancouver Canucks spoiled the Anaheim Ducks’ home opener with a 2-1 victory last night. Ryan Miller made 28 saves and Adam Cracknell scored in regulation for Vancouver, which beat the Ducks for just the third time in their last 12 meetings.

NEW YORK (AP) – Curtis Granderson drove in five runs, Yoenis Cespedes homered into the second deck and the New York Mets overcame Matt Harvey’s early struggles to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 13-7 last night for a 2-1 lead in the NL Division Series. Travis d’Arnaud also homered as the Mets set a franchise postseason record for runs in their first playoff game at Citi Field.
