Seahawks’ Coleman arrested in hit-and-run investigation

BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman has been arrested and is under investigation of vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run. The team says he has been suspended indefinitely pending further information.

According to jail records, Coleman was booked into King County Jail in Seattle early Thursday and bail was denied. He was arrested by Bellevue police but details were not immediately available. An afternoon news conference is scheduled.

Coleman is in his fourth season with the Seahawks. He spent the 2012 season on the practice squad before making the 53-man roster in 2013. Coleman missed 11 games and the playoffs last season because of a broken foot.

Coleman is legally deaf and his football success has made him an inspirational figure. He has been featured in TV commercials and written a book that was released this year.

UO football player pleads not guilty to alcohol charge

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A University of Oregon football player has pleaded not guilty to an alcohol-related charge and is scheduled to go to trial next month.

The Register-Guard reports that 20-year-old Darren Carrington appeared in Eugene Municipal Court on Tuesday to plead not guilty to a violation of the state’s open container law.

Police say Carrington was ticketed on Sept. 26 after a Eugene Police Department officer saw the wide receiver carrying a cup that contained alcohol.

A non-jury trial is scheduled for Nov. 18.

Carrington has not played this season while serving an NCAA-mandated suspension for a failed drug test. It is unclear when he will return to the field.

Arizona picked to repeat as Pac-12 regular-season champion

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Two-time defending champion Arizona has been chosen to win the Pac-12 regular-season basketball title for a fourth straight season.

Coach Sean Miller’s Wildcats received 18 first-place votes in a poll of media members announced at Pac-12 media day Thursday. California is picked to finish second with nine first-place votes under second-year coach Cuonzo Martin. His team has added top recruits Jaylen Brown from Georgia and local Oakland standout Ivan Rabb to join senior returner Tyrone Wallace. The Golden Bears finished 18-15 and eighth in the Pac-12 last season.

Utah is selected third and has four returning starters. Pac-12 tournament runner-up Oregon is fourth, with UCLA fifth. They are followed by Oregon State, Colorado and Arizona State, which is now coached by Bobby Hurley. Rounding out the poll are NIT champion Stanford, USC, Washington and Washington State.

DUKE-NIKE DEAL

Duke, Nike reach 12-year extension on athletic apparel deal

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Duke and Nike have agreed to a 12-year extension to their deal supplying Blue Devils sports teams with uniforms, footwear and athletic apparel.

The school announced the extension through 2027 on Thursday, though financial terms were not disclosed.

In a news release, Duke athletic director Kevin White noted the two have been partners since 1992 and the deal will provide “more cutting edge innovation in addition to significant financial resources” that benefits school athletes. Nike North America president and general manager Joaquin Hidalgo’s statement called Duke “a proven leader in higher education and college sports.”
