Homecoming win bolsters Siuslaw in Standings

Vikings dominate Trojans

Preston Mitchell carried the ball five times, but three of those runs found the end zone and the Siuslaw Vikings snapped a two-game losing streak Friday night with a 42-20 Far West Football win over the Douglas Trojans in Florence. Scott Gordon had nine catches for 113 yards, along with a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown.

In other Far West action, North Bend beat Brookings-Harbor 47-7; Marshfield beat South Umpqua 50-6. The Bulldogs and Pirates are each undefeated in league play and will face off Friday night with the Far West championship on the line. Siuslaw will be in Brookings and can clinch 3rd place and a playoff spot with a win.

In Mapleton, the Sailors led 30-22 at the half, but the Siletz Valley Warriors scored 38 unanswered points after the break to come out on top 60-30. Dominic Wells carried the ball 5 times for 23 yards; he also had five catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns in the effort.

On the volleyball court

Tthe Siuslaw Vikings made it to the consolation bracket in the Marshfield invitational Saturday in Coos Bay. They beat Myrtle Point in two games; downed North Valley in three sets; then lost to Coquille in two.

The Mapleton Sailors are expected to wrap up the Mountain West schedule tonight in Eddyville at six. Win or lose, the Sailors will host Alsea Thursday in a league playoff match.

College football Saturday

Luke Falk tied the school record with six touchdown passes, all in the first half, as Washington State beat Oregon State 52-31.

Oregon quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. returned to after missing the previous two games to throw for 272 yards and two touchdowns, and the Ducks won their 12th straight over Washington 26-20 on Saturday night.

Oregon Will be in Tempe October 29th where they’ll take on Arizona State; Oregon State will face Colorado at home this Saturday.
