SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners have hired Andy McKay as their new director of player development overseeing the club’s farm system. New Seattle general manager Jerry Dipoto officially announced the hiring yesterday. McKay had served as the peak performance coordinator for the Colorado Rockies’ minor league system since September 2012.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Seahawks running back Fred Jackson will play tonight against San Francisco after being examined by the team following a minor car crash. Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Jackson participated in the team’s walkthrough yesterday before departing to face the 49ers.
SEATTLE (AP) — Carli Lloyd scored in the 85th minute and the World Cup champion United States women pulled out a 1-1 tie with Brazil last night after trailing since the opening moments. Lloyd got her foot to a cross from defender Meghan Klingenberg and the shot got past goalkeeper Luciana, deflected off the underside of the crossbar and into the net. The U.S. was on the verge of suffering its first home loss in more than a decade.
SEATTLE (AP) — Alex Morgan started for the World Cup champion U.S. team against Brazil last night amid reports that she was on the verge of being sent to the expansion Orlando Pride of the National Women’s Soccer League. Morgan has played with the Portland Thorns for the past three seasons. The Thorns didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
