BEND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Department of Forestry says fire season is officially over in the Central Oregon District. The department says in a news release that the action comes as a result of recent rain and cool, moist weather in the forecast. The Bend Bulletin reports that the Forestry Department and local fire departments will start allowing open outside burning. Permits may be required and some restrictions may still apply.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police are investigating a stabbing that injured a man and a woman yesterday morning. Both victims are expected to survive, though the woman was seriously injured. Officers said the suspect fled. They’re asking anyone with information about the attack to get in touch with detectives.

BOARDMAN, Ore. (AP) — Officials in Boardman hope two new subdivisions will help alleviate a housing shortage in the fast-growing eastern Oregon community. The first two houses were recently completed in a new subdivision known as Tuscany. The East Oregonian reports that employees of businesses at the nearby Port of Morrow now outnumber the city’s total population. Estimates show that a majority of workers commute from other areas, many more than 25 miles away.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — The contractor on a massive forest thinning project in northern Arizona and a timber manager split up over allegations of unpaid fees, insufficient funding and other issues, according to federal court documents. The Arizona Daily Sun reports that Portland, Oregon-based timber manager Campbell Global has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Oregon against Good Earth Power AZ. They parted ways in July but did not say why.
