BEND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say two people have died in an explosion inside a World War II-era tank at a firing range in Bend. Paramedics tried to revive the victims but they died from their injuries. Detectives from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police Arson and Explosives Section are jointly investigating.

DALLAS, Ore. (AP) – Police arrested a man and woman from Oregon accused of holding a woman captive for six weeks. Documents filed this week in Polk County show 46-year-old Ronnie Lee and 44-year-old Irish Boyce charged with kidnapping and unlawful sexual penetration. Lee has also been charged with rape.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A bill to outlaw ivory sales stalled in the Oregon Legislature earlier this year, so animal welfare advocates are taking their cause directly to voters. The measure would go even further, aiming to end the sale of products derived from a variety of endangered or heavily poached animals, including elephants, rhinos, lions, sea turtles and sharks. It comes as other states, and the federal government, look to end much of the legal market for ivory.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – For the second time this month, an Oregon law enforcement officer nabbed a suspected thief while on a coffee break. A Clackamas County sheriff’s deputy was getting coffee at Starbucks when she saw 34-year-old David Wilcox walk by. Authorities say the deputy recognized Wilcox from surveillance footage.
