Siuslaw junior Celie Mans paces lady Viks to trophy
The individual and the team championship trophies for the girls’ OSAA 4A Cross Country finals are on display at Siuslaw High School this week. Celie Mans won the individual crown Saturday morning in Eugene with a time of 18:45. Her effort paced the Viking girls to the team title by a 24-point margin over Sisters.
The Viking boys placed well; they were ninth. Murray Bingham was tenth individually in 16:41.
On the gridirion…
It came down to a final shot at the end zone with one second left Friday night in Junction City, but the Tigers batted away the pass to hold on for a 24-21 win over the Siuslaw Vikings. The loss ended the season for Siuslaw… the Vikings had a six-and-three overall record on the year.
In Mapleton, Hunter Simington had 24 carries for 200 yards and four touchdowns, but the Mohawk Indians stifled the Sailors 80- 32 to end the season for both teams. The Sailors ended the year with a three-and-five record.
In the Pac-12
Number 13 Utah jumped to a 14-point lead and cruised to a 27-12 victory over Oregon State. The Beavers, still looking for a conference win, were without starting quarterback Seth Collins, who didn’t make the trip after injuring his knee in practice Thursday. Fellow freshman Nick Mitchell started and threw for 204 yards and a touchdown.
The Beavers will face UCLA Saturday afternoon in Corvallis. Oregon was off over the weekend, they’ll host Cal.
