OAKRIDGE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police and fire marshals are investigating after a fire in Oakridge’s historic Uptown District destroyed two businesses. The Register-Guard reports that the fire early yesterday destroyed Lion Mountain Bakery and On-One Bikes USA. No injuries were reported and no one was in either business at the time of the blaze.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – One man is dead and two people are hurt in a head-on crash in Washington County last night. Sheriff’s deputies say a Lafayette man’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a car driven by a Newberg woman. The man died at the scene while the woman and her grandson were both hospitalized in serious condition.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a Washington woman was arrested over the weekend after 24 pounds of crystal meth was found in her car during a Eugene traffic stop. The Oregonian reports a drug detection dog discovered the drugs in a hidden compartment. Teri Baker of Kent, Washington, was stopped for speeding on Interstate 5 late Friday.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – Officials in Astoria are working to save a historic bigleaf maple tree that is well known to the community. The Daily Astorian reports that the 150-year-old tree developed a crack near the center of its dual trunk. The crack has become infected and weakened by fungus and rot and could cause the tree to fall in high winds.
